Simple Machines Forum is a good free forum management system, I am also using it on my Webmaster Forum. I have seen many people asking about the SEO of smf. SO, I decided to introduce a smf modification that contributes much in SMF SEO.
The Name of plugin is ‘Pretty URLs’. I know that many smf users are familiar with this modification but it will help beginners.
Pretty URLs is a simple mod that turn your smf urls into search engine friendly urls.
For example the default format for
http://www.yourforum.com/index.php?board=1.0
Transformed into Pretty Urls format would behttp://www.yourforum.com/board-name-here/
- Benefits of Pretty Urls:
- Helps increase the rankings on search engines for your forum. Which brings in more traffic to your website
- Easier to remember urls for your forum and makes your forum look cleaner to vistors
- Stop loosing your traffic and rankings to other forums/websites install Pretty Urls today!

Sorry to say, but PrettyURL’s does not improve rankings. The URL of a site does not improve rankings either, infact twisting the URL’s like that would make it even harder for Search Engines to navigate. Sure it’s better for users, but it isn’t good for ranking. As a long term SMF user AND modification developer myself, I’ve experimented with PrettyURL’s, and aswell as loads of other people, that is the conclusion.
Hi, thanks for this great plugin, I have two SMF boards and this is really good for me
